Jacinta Numina was born at Sterling Station, Central Australia, in 1965 and is niece to the world acclaimed Petyarre sisters from Utopia. In the early eighties she started painting with a group of lady elders from the Utopia region. The central theme of her artwork relates to her knowledge of the Anmatyerre (women’s) Law and her country.

In 1996, Jacinta moved to Darwin to formally study at Charles Darwin University and completed her Associate Degree in Art and Design in 2003. The next year saw Jacinta complete her traineeships in printmaking and was then appointed as a fulltime printmaker at Northern Editions, she completed works with the NT Government. 

Recently Aboriginal Bush Traders, hosted Jacinta's sold out solo exhibition Atnangkerre; Ankerre, Arnkerrthe (My Country; Emu and Thorny Devil Lizard Dreaming). "Totems such as the Thorny Devil Lizard and Emu can be passed down through Cultural Ceremonies. This ensures that the stories and traditions are kept alive."

Jessica is a young artist, who grew up surrounded by a large family of artists.

Her nana (Faye Parriman nee Anderson/Ryder), a Yamatji and Noongar women from the desert and wildflower country in Western Australia, has painted her stories on canvas for many years. Her pop (Kevin Parriman/Dixon), a Jabirr Jabirr and Yawuru saltwater man from the West Kimberley is a carver specialising in hand crafted boomerangs using techniques taught to him by one of his grandfathers. Jessica’s mum, an award-winning artist, has had her work feature in group and solo exhibitions. Both her older sisters have had art feature in exhibitions with her eldest sister having a solo show “Nan's Everlasting Memories” in 2022.

Jessica has a deep connection to her homeland at Nudagun in her pop’s country, spending time learning the places and stories in her Jabirr Jabirr & Yawuru Country. She has grown up painting with her nan and learning stories of growing up in the wildflower and desert country. In 2010, her nan returned to country taking 2 cars, 2 daughters, and 6 grandchildren to experience the wildflowers on Yamatji country. Visiting the amazing wildflowers and beautiful country bought her nan’s stories to life and left a huge impression on Jessica and her art.

Jessica’s art blends her saltwater and desert art styles together to create unique pieces. Her more recent work has been focusing on her nan’s stories in the wildflower country.

Bevan Tjampitjinpa was born in Darwin and grew up visiting his homeland. Bevan studied in Darwin until Year 10 before moving to Ti Tree which is his Grandmother, Grandfather and Mother’s country and later moved to live with his Elders on the Anmatjere Lands.
 
He lived permanently with his Elders for the next ten years being taught the traditional ways and being initiated into the ceremonies and laws of the desert region. Bevan speaks fluent Anmatjere and knows the traditional law and how to hunt for bush tucker and bush animals
 
Bevan was taught to paint by elders in his family. From an early age he was interested in his family’s art and wanted to learn how it was done. Bevan was encouraged to use both brush and stick to produce traditional art which took him a number of years to perfect.
 
Bevan was taught by Peggy Nungulla Reily, Beryl Pultura, Barbra Leo, Judith Ross, Tommy Mbtajana and Mark Cook. His training covered a variety of techniques which included Dreamtime symbology and how to interpret various landscape features into the canvas. He was also taught how to make spears, shields and fighting sticks (nulla nulla) which are an important part of the hunting stories he portrays.
 
Bevan uses the traditional symbols to reflect the men’s hunting forays that he has been involved in and the women’s hunting and gathering expeditions that he has joined them on, to tell a modern story of how his family group and clan currently live.


Bevan’s presentation of his artwork shows the world a beautiful and educational story of his culture, family group and the depth of spirituality of his people. Bevan’s focus is on hunting stories and shows the every day life of these traditional people and how they find and gather food for the family group. The main source of life for people in this harsh desert is the waterhole that he depicts in many of the artworks.
 
Bevan is passionate about his culture and his art and is an artist destined to succeed.
